Job Description
The Elementary School Principal Substitute serves as the temporary educational leader and administrator of the school site. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe, productive, and positive learning environment during the absence of the permanent Principal. You are the steady hand that ensures students, staff, and parents feel supported and that daily operations run without a hitch.
- Key responsibilities
Sustains of a shared school vision, aligning mission-driven programs with District goals. (Ex. leveraging resources and fostering collaborative partnerships with students, staff, parents, and the community to drive school-wide improvement). - Sustains the implementation and monitoring of a rigorous, standards-based curriculum to ensure academic progress for every learner. Use data to inform instructional strategies and provide timely feedback.
- Cultivates a culture of continuous improvement in coordination with the Instructional Coordinator and educators at the site.
- Cultivates a positive, engaging academic environment while ensuring that the social, cultural, and emotional dynamics of the school community are integrated into the school's daily identity. Builds strong, transparent relationships with students, staff, and families through active listening and visible leadership to ensure that all stakeholders feel heard, valued, and empowered to contribute to the school's success.
- Monitors school-wide behavior management strategies that prioritize a healthy learning environment (Ex. implement best practices for student conduct and manage emergency situations with effective, timely communication)
- Co-facilitates and sustains both formal and informal onboarding processes to ensure new personnel are successfully integrated into the school community (Ex. support mentoring and coaching program).
- Manages teacher and staff evaluation systems with support from principal coach
- Ensures the school operates safely and efficiently by maintaining a deep working knowledge of state education laws, district policies, and safety regulations.
- Works collaboratively with District colleagues, families, and community partners
Qualifications:- Masters Degree in Ed Leadership with a WI DPI #51 Principal License
- Five years experience as a Principal or other school administrator
Supervises: Teachers, Admin. Asst. I, Admin. Asst. II, Admin. Asst. III, Classroom Educational Asst., Clerical Educational Asst., Security Aide, Special Educational Asst., School Psychologist, School Counselor, Social Worker
Physical Requirements- Ability to sit for prolonged periods
- Ability to move teaching materials, books, or equipment (up to 25 lbs).
- Sufficient vision and hearing to monitor students and respond to classroom needs.
- Manual dexterity to operate classroom technology (ex. computers, projectors, whiteboards).
- Ability to move around the workspace (ex. classroom and school building.)
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or reaching for materials or assisting students.
- Stamina to maintain energy throughout long school days.
- Ability to consistently tolerate noisy environments
- Ability to complete and assess assigned work for accuracy, neatness, and safety

Supervisory Requirements- These relate to responsibilities for overseeing students and sometimes other staff:
- Supervision of students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
- Enforcement of school policies and behavior expectations with students.
- Coordination with teaching assistants, aides, or volunteers (where applicable).
- Communication with parents/guardians regarding student performance and conduct.
